Reflecting On the Past Year

Before you start planning your digital planning adventure, it’s important to reflect on the past to see what worked for you and what didn’t. This is the perfect opportunity for you to make adjustments or change things entirely. While reflecting on the past year, ask yourself:

  • What goals did I accomplish?

  • What challenges were setbacks for me?

  • What habits contributed to my success?

  • What can I do differently this year?

Writing down your goals in a digital planner can help you focus on your new year’s goals and track your progress.

Setting Clear and Achievable Goals

Setting goals is essential for your success in the new year. These goals:

  • Improves performance

  • Increases self-determination

  • Improves ethical behavior

  • Can improve overall well-being by helping you stay on track

  • Promotes positive psychological effects

Using the SMART method can help you set realistic goals to be successful in the new year. SMART goals are:

  • Specific

  • Measurable

  • Achievable

  • Relevant

  • Time-bound

It may also help to break your goals down into specific categories, such as:

  • Health and wellness

  • Family and home

  • Personal growth

  • Career or business

  • Finance

Looking Forward to the New Year

Prepare yourself for the new year by creating a yearly plan. An annual plan can:

  • Enhance decision-making

  • Help you clarify your goals

  • Boost communication

  • Improve efficiency

  • Promote adaptability

With a yearly overview, you can visualize your goals, adjust them when needed, and track your progress, helping you to stay focused and organized. This is your year to achieve your goals and not give in to being overwhelmed, stress, and anything else that doesn’t contribute anything positive in your life.

Separate and Support Your Goals

Do you have big New Year’s goals? That’s amazing! To help you achieve these goals, break them down into smaller, manageable ones. Consistency is the key to success.

Planning doesn’t have to be a chore. Use monthly and digital planning pages to help you categorize your short-term and long-term tasks and goals. You can also use habit trackers and to-do lists to prevent burnout and maintain your motivation.

Support your goals by building the correct habits. Proper habit-building is another crucial part of achieving your goals. Habits you can focus on include:

  • Daily planning

  • Morning routines

  • Weekly check-ins

  • Regular self-care

Tracking your habits in your digital planner helps reinforce consistency and keeps you accountable.

Declutter Your Space and Schedule

You may think of decluttering as cleaning and organizing your home, which is correct. However, did you know decluttering involves mental, physical, and digital actions?

Mental Declutter - clearing your mind helps you achieve any goal you set. Everything starts with your mind, your thoughts. Mental declutter involves sorting through your thoughts. You may not realize how heavy your thoughts have become.

If you're always on the go, making sure everyone gets where they need to go and ensuring everything gets done, you wake up and go to sleep with tons of thoughts, like thousands of tabs open on your internet browser. It’s time to organize!

Physical Declutter - ensuring the space around you is clean and organized is another way you can put yourself closer to achieving your goals. Take your time. Whether you’re decluttering your home, workspace, school space, or any other type of space, start small.

Think of how you want the space to look. Once you have an idea, start organizing. Decide what you want to keep and what you want to throw away. Don’t forget to add cute decor!

Digital Declutter - emails, photos, and apps are taking up space on your device! Clean up your inbox by deleting emails that aren’t important and unsubscribing from companies you no longer use (it helps with unwanted emails).

Create folders in your email to help you keep your mail organized. Some email providers also have a feature that allows you to color-code your folders.

Photos need to be organized, too! Get rid of duplicate photos and consider getting a storage space, such as a flash drive, to help you keep your precious memories organized and safe while reducing digital clutter.

All those lovely apps you have…you don’t use half of them. Take a moment…or longer, to remove the apps you no longer need. Make sure you cancel any app subscriptions you may have.

Digital planning is a fun, creative way to keep track of and organize your daily, weekly, and yearly tasks. Remember, planning is fun, not a chore. You're only one click away from venturing on your digital planning journey!
